10 tips very important to keep in mind when you jump on your own project or business.
With great discipline and persistence these tips will help you steer your project.

1. Daily routine

Being freelance means that you’ll be in your home for long. This makes everything much more monotonous and lose track of time, and it will be easier to be distracted and wander with you anything that crosses your path.
Having a daily routine is easier to ensure that we comply with the work we have undertaken. This may include dedicating a fixed amount of hours to develop, another to answer emails, updated with the latest technologies and try new things.

2. Try not to commit yourself more than you can handle

This is a particularly difficult, especially if you got a level of fixed costs relatively high. Due to the extensive nature of this work, and often have little knowledge about what customers really means developing, boundaries are very blurred. A project that we believe in 10-12 hours of work may be duplicated without us noticing. Something we can do is overestimate always a percentage (20-30%) the time we think it will take. It is always better than us on time to go out. Remember that going to be your weekends and nights to suffer the consequence.

3. Stay up focused on your specialty

Customers are going to ask you all sorts of things. Generally how much happier a customer is going to want more things to do. It is important to remember what we do well not to leave us a customer for trying to cover too much. It is best to learn to say no and find a good network of companies and freelancers friends to derive work properly we can not handle.

4. Try to have fun, especially at times of increased stress

Our instinct often pushes us to work faster to get a delivery date closest to which we would like. My experience is that always ends up being harmful to oneself and the work go faster than our natural rhythm. If you learn to breathe deeply and take a step back in the most complicated, you’ll save more of a stress attack.

5. In your free time, walk away from the PC

Most of us enjoyed working on this much of what we do, and usually ended up being our work because first was our hobby. That means you’ll always have things to chew on the Internet (my bloglines is near the 80 feeds), causing many times through the day, and although we only worked a few hours the whole time we were sitting in front of the PC. Finally desacansar the only way the PC is off, so that you take these moments to relax, turn off the monitor a while despejate.

6. Schedule extra time for large projects or recurring

The larger the project, the more difficult to foresee how long you’re going to have to spend. Always end Taking time to a little bug, something that we forgot, or just something we had not anticipated. Separate some overtime and then not wear them, you have time to do something else.

7. Learn when to charge per hour, and when to charge for project

After a while of working in the same, there are many things that are repeated. This will give us some idea of what to charge for anything because we go through different problems and we know we can expect. Then there are those who bring us constant challenges, usually with unpredictable time we take to do it. Taking for granted that you have to go arming a reputation for charging by the hour, while well documented that we do and transparent way of charging it is ideal for both parties. The customer can ask all you want because you’re paying, and we get paid for every minute of work.

8. Honesty and trust are the mainstay of freelance work

Not having a company with more people, offices, leaders and other additives, it is very important that the customer trusts us. Once the customer begins to see that one is not transparent with the work you do and what we charge, it will quickly go elsewhere to seek the peace that we are giving him.

9. Try to have resolved the legal issue as quickly / best

This is a topic often overlooked by the informality with which you regularly handle in the freelance world, and especially because one usually starts with very little and is an expense too great to have all the necessary papers. If the freelance work is a long term plan is important to invest in having a legal security to prevent malicious or customer problems in many cases with the government over tax issues.

10. Organize time for you and your family / friends

By failing to comply with a fixed schedule, is very common that we get on to go through the work and spend the minimum time needed with the people around us. It is important to separate time to help them with their stuff or just to hang out. It is easier to solve a problem with a project with a girlfriend / or / friend.
