Is it better to have full time job or be freelancer ?
The internships are not the only possibility of employment for young talent. Today, companies are very interested in recruiting for specific projects. Are you interested in this type of employment?
It is a fact: many companies are cutting their workforce. This will save thousands of dollars a year in labor liabilities, services and other benefits to be offered to their employees. It also fits very well with the needs of growing businesses.
But to achieve productivity levels resorted to hiring talent for the project. Normally contracts are short, non-renewable and focused goals. It is clear is that this mode brings benefits to businesses, but what about employees?
Part of my career has been in business web development, a field that is constantly expanding so that the workload at times be overwhelming. In such cases resorted to hiring the piece. Designers and programmers have joined our team for a specified period, and after showing talent and commitment, more than once suggested to these boys who accompany us in the company on an ongoing basis. Most surprisingly declined the offer.
At first I was not understood them. I seemed to turn his back on a fixed fee, with bonuses of law, health insurance and other benefits to the employees themselves were permanent nuts.
So was my insistence on finding out the fascination with this form of work, I went to confess to each of the boys. Some spoke of freedom, others to manage their own time, money and other of the most talented spoke of the ability to have multiple jobs at the same time, which multiplied its revenues.
Hear these stories separately did not help to have a clear perspective, but once joined the parts I understood: the freelancer builds the work for you. Not tied to the formalities (of time or dress) from an office, does not depend on third parties to access certain resources, you can set priorities for life because it is master of his time and so strange as it may seem, takes over.
Clearly, this was not always so. There were times of drought or failed to projects where a contract, there were times that they would have preferred to have the support of a company and had many bitter moments where a dental plan or medical insurance would have saved her. In addition, with so many unemployed people in the market, these professionals should be specialized, a talent show and learn to adapt to the customers if they really wanted to live from their work in this mode.
I myself went through this kind of job, I was also teleworkers and external consultant. But for years I returned to the world of formal employment and fixed, and I feel happy in it. I like the security of knowing that a company protects me and it helps me establish a greater commitment to my work and with the company. But no hint of wonder, what if I had to go back to contracts for the project? Would the drive and energy? Would it be able to provide the same level of commitment?
For now, these questions remain unanswered, but for anyone who has already tested the taste of freedom of work, freelance work is a memory that never fails to click. Many of my colleagues, in fact, that possibility stroke in secret and occasionally, announcing his desire to become consultants or work on their own. The wives, of course, nothing to poke, but I know well that many of them maintain their network of contacts to date, because you never know …
