Freelancer job – is it good to be and work from home

As many of you know, some of my work activities are performed on a freelance basis (according to Wikipedia: A person whose business is to perform work specific to your occupation, trade or profession, independently, for others who require their services for specific tasks , which generally will not pay his salary as a function of time spent but the result, no contract required both parties to continue the relationship beyond the custom made). I write for some magazines as Users, Dr. Max and Tuxinfo, and besides I am writing a book on computing (after I reveal the name =)), and always try to remember some tips, there are tips that I have read and copied, but are some things that maybe they are useful if you perform this activity at home, many of them were shaped by trial and error, and other points I’ve noticed after some experience in the field, see the considerations:

* Work according to the other (living at home): The first section of this guide (uauuu) and most importantly, if they live with other homo sapiens (or derivatives) in their home, they must understand that you are working on the computer is also good to know when they’re not doing, in my experience, when this was known, came to my workplace every two minutes, someone warned me I was looking for, or who were ringing the bell, that can grate on the nerves of anyone and is good to clarify and explain that, although we are working at home, if this point is obvious, forget to hand in term labor … and worse, parents who have a child Creran vague.

* Schedules of Duties: As described by the great Wiki, Freelance work normally is task or goal, not working hours, ie if we finished in 5 hours laburo all on the same day, and that’s all we had to week, great. So this good that we have an agenda (digital or not) where we plan our tasks according to deadlines of work, so that our time is most profitable.
* Hours: Freelance work in an uncompromising, is like giving a chocolate cake a la Tota Santillan’s care for us as we tie the laces. This point has to be respected to the letter, a laburar have to get up, run the clock because there is that card check is not a very good practice.
* Always Comply: One thing that always brought me good dividends is “always comply to the letter the date of delivery of work”, ie if the delivery date is 22 to 21 have all set up and delivered, it has two advantages, you took off work and in my case above, the editor I have more consideration, and good references, thanks to my performance.
* Work according to the other (not living at home): This buenisimo explain to friends and family that addresses this but want to be Freelance work as some who are lazy all day at home boludeando (but even if the comment the nerd haragan jumps in a reunion =)).
* Always have a good work space: I wrote about it, I refer you to the previous note.

Friends, these tips I have been taking shape over nearly 4 years of experience in the field of Freelance work, I hope you have been helpful if they perform tasks remotely, or you intend to do so. Remember that you can use this little guide as they see fit; is CC and therefore completely free.

How to manage the pressure in your freelance projects

Working under pressure has advantages and disadvantages. The tension keeps us active and alert, and we “push” to get things done. The proof is that when there is no fixed deadline, we spend a lot more time to do the job. Our performance drop significantly. The time passes we find the time to start, and we do not end the project until they feel that everything is “absolutely” perfect [sometimes, that means that never ends].

But it is also true that when the pressure exceeds the limits and overwhelms us, could adversely affect our quality of life and our health. The most frequent result is that our freelance adventure ends early. So it is so important to find a balance between these two poles.

Here, as elsewhere, there are different ways of seeing things. Which of the two groups belong to?:
1. High voltage

There are professionals who insist that the pressure helps them do their jobs. For this group, tight deadlines and demands made by the client, or even by themselves, are the best source of motivation, enabling them to unleash their creativity and perform my best.

Profile. Many of these professionals were bored at her previous firm, and became a freelance just to meet new challenges in a more ambitious without limitations, the procedures and limitations into traditional structures

2. Low Voltage

Another group of professionals, however, understands that the pressure is something to be avoided as far as possible. For them, the pressure limiting creativity, and is responsible for many projects are not carried out successfully. In his opinion, the best way to do a job is taking their time, attention to detail to ensure the quality of the final result.

Profile. Many of these were freelance professionals to avoid the typical strains on those subjected employees: long commute to the workplace, traffic jams, inflexible schedules, always behind a boss, a working environment tax, etc..
The pressure is inevitable

The fact is that, like it or not, our freelance activity always carries some pressure. No longer hide behind a computer, or pass it on to another. If there is a list of things to do and a deadline set, it is impossible to fall asleep. Especially when the work falls on one person and that person is you.

At this pressure must be added another:

- Find new projects and new customers

- Get customers to pay their bills

- Bookkeeping

- Timely and properly pay the corresponding taxes

- Etc.

Seek balance. As we have seen, the key is to find the level of pressure we need to do the job effectively without our quality of life will suffer.

THINK MEDIUM / LONG TERM. It is important to this approach at least the medium term. Not enough to endure a hellish pressure for two months if the third going to have to throw in the towel altogether. Before that happens, you take action.
Manages pressure in 3 steps

FreelanceFolder In 3 easy steps they propose to handle the pressure the best way possible:

1. Discover how you react to pressure

You should try to discover what level of pressure that stimulates you and allows you to perform your job efficiently without harming your health. Make sure that, besides producing, getting enough sleep, eat healthily, and have time to unwind and for your leisure activities.

Everyone reacts to pressure differently, and it is important to discover what your defense mechanisms. Although at first glance do not seem so, your body is always “talks”. Most practical is to hear what you’re saying if you start suffering back pain, headaches, stomach upset, heartburn, bad mood, a certain pressure in the chest … it is very possible that you’re having with the dose of pressure.

2. Discover what factors are influencing and to what extent

If you see something wrong, you should try to locate those specific factors that are affecting your quality of life. The problem could be that not getting enough sleep in a chair you use poor quality that do not sport, you work too many hours, or even that certain types of work that can not stand.

To make sure the diagnosis is right, also examines the factors located in your environment, although not strictly work. You may be responsible for your problems is a family affair.

3. Take appropriate steps to bring pressure to sustainable levels

Once you know what the problem is to use the means to solve it.

If the problem is overwork, or tight deadlines, you have to reject or postpone some projects, and must otherwise negotiate with your clients to give yourself a wider margin. For complicated it may seem, it is always better than throwing in the towel.

About your job in times of crisis – Learn to assess your work

The truth is that yes, even in times of plenty Having a job is a very important tool for maintaining high self-esteem, and better when we do we like.

When you have the dream job, with a pleasant working environment, the tasks that you implemented to the satisfaction of concern and if your work is valued by your boss and team work, you feel great. But if you see a “best offer” may not go to that other place.

But things change a bit in times of crisis, even if your work is not very well appreciated, when the flowers do not get what you’re used to (a) to receive, even if the collective bargaining agreement does nothing but “the serrucharte floor “to fall and go, even when the head is most pedantic, even when customers get vendors are super picky, even when the Boss is always on the client side and never on your side, even though the slightest carelessness or mistake can cause you to go from “paws on the street” even when you have all these circumstances against you value more … your job, because you know it’s easier to leave the company to find another opportunity, so do would not normally do things, you behave with customers complacent, I occasionally serve coffee to your boss …. That learned from indifference to be tolerant of people, you learn to work better and work under pressure.

In a nutshell Learn to assess your work.

So, why have that in times of crisis we value more our jobs?, Perhaps because finding a new one is more difficult than before, perhaps because you get food to your home to support your family, maybe because you like the way they treat you perhaps because you have no other, but whatever your “maybe” would you be willing to behave in the same way if the job were not so hard to get you, if your answer is NO, you’re wrong !!!!.

Even in times of crisis, good workers, people used to be tolerant of the client, always optimistic people find jobs, a helping hand are always willing to lend you a phone when llamadita know there’s a chance that you could take advantage. So think about it, but you must do so from YA!.

Remember that times of crisis there since the beginning of creation, and if we in modern times of crisis are not new, points out that recently the United States was plunged into a depression (1920), crises are overcome and depends on who you succeed.

At the start of the Economic Crisis Many companies closed, they gave up (we ran the sound of the drum), but a few stayed to give brave fight this Goliath (crisis) and how good we are beating up David Goliath. The Bible and history remembers this battle for the size difference and military experience, was used to Goliath struggle, was a fierce warrior and just the sight of his size had the urge to run, but the shepherd David left in the midst of the crowd and gave the battle that defined his future.

The battle of David is the one we are currently facing small businesses, microenterprises, Freelance designer, the maid, the caretaker of street surveillance companies in order, all businesses open. Tomorrow when it toppled Goliath who do you think will look for customers who think that they will seek to accommodate him: that he ran? or who stayed, fought and paddled the crisis?.

How to find website advertisers in 5 minutes – google ad planner for webmasters

How to find website advertisers ? Simple, use tool where advertiser can easy find you and get informations about your website – Google ad planner !

A new tool which will be very useful to those who manage public has come to hand of Google. And that is after the launch of Google Trends for Websites, which would be the poor brother of this new tool will bring cola.Google Ad Planner is a system of audience measurement that is similar to Nielsen Media, Hitwise, Alexa , ComScore and Compete, and which is the giant’s reply to audit its results without the need for third party tools that occasionally you have to fall on the stock exchange, as the battle he had with

Personally I think the fact that Google has control of the Internet advertising and now to decide which data are reliable (we can always see the data from other systems that do not match) will make the final runs to invest more in their advertising systems, and in the end be compelled in some way if you want to appear reliably in this system of measurement you use to get Analytics and Adsense, two of the most reliable measurement systems for Google.

And what has this special tool?

Google Ad Planner is a free tool that Google provides for promotion of advertisers. However, it is also something interesting to keep track of competition and can potentially produce the following data for any site: unique visitors, page views, total No of visits, average pages per visit, average time per visit, breakdown of unique visitors per day, demographic data about visitors, search keywords ..

The data shown here is an estimate, but as we have seen in comparison with actual data from our websites is a fairly accurate estimate. In addition, Google offers the ability to directly associate Analytics data with Ad Planner, so that data would be real and not estimated.

To follow is simple: once the account created for Google Ad Planner, you must create a new plan associated with a particular country. Then there is no plan to add more established sites that want to control and when the data are available comentados. If competition is found in different countries, create a plan for each country.

So will audiences targeted web site traffic by country, related pages that users visit, the top searches, some demographic data such as age, sex, education or income, as well as integrate data from Google Ad Network (Adsense) indicating whether there ad, the traffic they have and if you can advertise on them. The sites can also be filtered by language or by category (themes).

Some features of the tool is that it is expected to be free, it is fully integrated with Google Adwords (for now by exporting data), also based on searches, displays data from the last 30 days, the only demographic data United States, if not screw you want to appear and give tools to enable Google to provide more data.

In principle, it seems, this service will be very useful in United States but for now, out there the data will not be as reliable, but have to say about 40 countries.

How to impove sales skills – freelance skills

Throughout the years I have worked freelance as I realized how important it is to know about sales … I mean, not only to knowledge in marketing and advertising for our work as designers, but to know about sales seeing as our services business.

I’ve worked with some big companies but the strong of my work is with SMEs (small and medium enterprises). I have to help birth marks, support campaigns, pratrocinar events.

Possibly much of this as well as I know, from experience, but I would like to make a list for those seeking to start and never has more:

1. Know your strengths. When we started opening step, the first thing is to know and recognize what we are best. As a rule, we know everything, but there is always something to do best. Photography, or illustration, corporate image or product development, advertising and editorial design. Set to devote our sales efforts can help us not to miss among all the possibilities and end up wasting valuable time by not organize before.

2. Studied in depth what you sell. Now that you have your main area we need to know everything possible, customers are very smart and sometimes you will be asked questions from previous experiences that you need to know to respond. And every effort is not just theory, for example, includes knowledge of printing and reproduction of your design, competitive prices, trends, at least in your geographic area, time performance, legal requirements or trusted contacts, for example to place advertising external requesting a client or doing sports uniforms with the logo of any company for a certain amount of time in uniform as embroidery, etc.. Detects the benefits you can offer your service to others are not.

3. In-depth study who will be your customers. In the design and we must apply the principles of marketing. Let us not forget that market is different, one thing is the running of workshops and other private schools and through the communication of the design features we can offer appropriate options for each. Including price, time limits for payments, promotions, etc.. Do not forget that throughout the year are presented for each season rotation. As is the return for some classes such as stationery, private universities, will be the dates for other holidays such as Christmas or Mother’s Day as gift shops, boutiques, spa or aesthetic, or even dates that are related to tax matters as it would be for firms of accountants and consultants. Part of customer service that I had focused on listening and make them see that they are not just customers, but people treat them as such, responding to what they need and interacting suggesting. It is important that if you’re prospecting in gyms or in medical units, know something of the subject and how the design could be applied in different cases.

4. Organize. Make a sales plan. With goals to achieve, establishes financial goals and dates, which will invest resources in your own advertising. Do not forget to schedule appointments, make phone calls on time. It is important to plan because it seems that is not important but sometimes the fact that two events together and put to one side of the city you could bring problems. Anything you write here may seem rather obvious but sometimes we forget as designers, to think of other details that make a difference. You need to have clear policies on trade discounts, billing, payment, conditions, etc.. Planned delivery times to avoid making the days and time to meet. Create promotions. And do a monthly review of progress.

5. Be a good seller. To this list should muchísmas features but I think the main thing is:

* Be patient – there are many kinds of customers with different personalities, but as happens with friends, we must love them as they are, so there is more to adapt to his style and ponr to convince all our knowledge.
* Talk with people who always make the decisions – no good work to publicize the benefits of our work with a person who does nothing with that information, and if you leave make sure the paperwork right person receives a phone call or go back.
* Adapt to the situation – There are times when you can not do the presentation you had planned and will have to summarize in a couple of minutes you had to say, or to schedule another visit. Learn to listen and keep quiet when necessary.
* Do not be a salesperson either. As in all it is always good to apply the phrase, do not do to others what you do not want you to remember that you are a professional design that puts its services to client orders. It is not worth being an expert in sales but if you have to make up for what we lack in some area which is where our strong focus on the sale stating the advantages that some publicity given to customers can be a good idea. Seeks to provide extra facilities such as the delivery service.
* Learn how to collect. The best way is to deliver quality in your work so that people will pay gladly. Apply discounts for prompt payment is always the possibility of seeking payment to cover costs. Organizers deadlines to provide customers with the purchase. And has an account for customer deposits in more remote locations and avoid unnecessary turns. Experience is the best ally.
* Never give up.
