Record unemployment in the euro area

Yesterday

have been published desmpleo data from the eurozone and the Unemployment in the eurozone reached 9.4% in June, one tenth above the May figure and 2.4 percentage points higher than a year ago, according to EU statistics office, Eurostat, said that it is the highest unemployment rate in the euro bloc since June 1999.

Across the European Union the unemployment rate reached 8.9% compared to 8.8% from 6.9% in May and June 2008. Also, the June reading is the highest unemployment rate in the EU since June 2005.

Among EU members, the lowest unemployment rate was registered in The Netherlands (3.3%) and Austria (4.4%), while Spain was again recorded the highest rate (18.1%) followed by Latvia (17.2%) and Estonia (17 %).

Furthermore, Eurostat reported that the estimated reading on inflation in the eurozone for July shows a fall of six tenths of prices compared to the 0.1% decline the previous month.

The estimation of the inflation figure is a projection of the data very close final, because in the last twenty-four months on 18 occasions coincided with the final reading and the remaining six months the difference was only one tenth.
