Across the European Union the unemployment rate reached 8.9% compared to 8.8% from 6.9% in May and June 2008. Also, the June reading is the highest unemployment rate in the EU since June 2005.
Among EU members, the lowest unemployment rate was registered in The Netherlands (3.3%) and Austria (4.4%), while Spain was again recorded the highest rate (18.1%) followed by Latvia (17.2%) and Estonia (17 %).
