Almost each and every interview, excluding the new ones, are aware of the fact that a few fixed set of questions are certainly going to be asked in almost every interview. Since your objective is to perform well in the interview so as to land the job, you should be prepared to answer these specific questions before the interview starts.
You can benefit a lot by planning properly and thinking about what is to come.
The most specific questions that would be raised is: “Explain your weaknesses?” An intriguing question, this can leave you wandering in your mind if you have not prepared in advance. No one wants to explain one’s negatives in front of a potential employer, and more so in front of the person who will be hiring you. one would think that it would adversely affect one’s image in front of the hiring person.
But the fact is that you have to answer this question without concern whether it is to your liking or not. this is how you can answer this question.
First of all, go through some brainstorming
In a spirit of complete honesty, as this question to yourself: What weaknesses do you have? Go through a short session brainstorming a few ideas through your mind, and if you have a liking for listing things, then write the ideas down if you find it comfortable.
However, make sure that all of this remains to you only. There is no need to break yourself down with this step. Keep your objective in your mind that it is only for answering the interview question, nothing more. It is a fact that everyone has some kind of weakness, and even the most perfect appearing individuals are also not without faults.
Keep your list of weaknesses to around just 5, so as not to beat your self-esteem. And, make sure that the weaknesses are relevant to the job for which you are applying. For instance, if you are not able to cling-on to your dieting or if you have no success in dating, then it is not relevant to reveal such weaknesses in front of your interviewer, as he/she is not looking for such weaknesses.
From the two approaches, select one.
The first approach is to reveal one of your positives disguised as a negative aspect. One example is when you say that you are a perfectionist and you can prove to be very hand on yourself. The fact is that most employers will be able to notice that you have cheated by describing one of your positives.
However, I recommend that when you have to tell one of your weaknesses, it is better that you answer a genuine weakness, and not disguise strength in the form of a weakness. This second approach is more honest and better. And, most of the employers are going to like your honesty in giving an answer to this question, and for leaving aside the falseness of the first approach.
More about the honest approach or the second approach
The second approach requires you to answer one of your genuine weaknesses, and it would be better and safer to reveal a minor weakness. You can certainly have a number of weaknesses that can be elaborated. However, it is not necessary that you select your worst weakness.
Based upon the type of job, you may discuss your shyness towards certain things, but at the same time also elaborate that you can instantly get along with people and the shyness vanishes once you get acquainted with new people at work. This is mostly how I answer the questions put to me in my interviews. It would be better to remain honest and express one of your genuine weaknesses. However, make sure to give a positive touch as given in the example above
