1. Why this industry?
Don’t say you like the industry because most people do. Rather focus on your personal history with the industry and your greatest contribution to it. Tell your success story and ways of making more success stories for the industry. Don’t say you are passionate about the industry but let your words say you are.
2. Talk about yourself
Don’t give a chronology of work history. Emphasize your strengths and ways in which they pertain to the role you are applying for. Speak out about the things the role will help you do for the company and how each is directly linked to your strengths.
3. What are your opinions on your previous boss?
As much as you might not have a perfect history with your previous boss speak about the things he enabled you learn. The kind of person he was and how he challenged you. Don’t make him too perfect though. Remember if you speak ill of your previous boss your interviewers might not award you the job because they will someday be your previous bosses and they don’t want to trashed that much.
4. Why leave your present role?
Don’t badmouth your employer or job. Be positive. You can state that you feel as if you need fresh challenges, gain different skills and learn from other professionals as well. Try to state why the company you are applying for is best suited to equip you.
5. Where will you be in 5 years?
Your answer should show your career oriented mentality, ambitions and commitment to a future with the company. Don’t share your dream to retire early. You could talk of gaining a managerial position and how you will use the role.
6. What’s your worst weakness?
Here talk about those weaknesses that you have managed to overcome and state with examples. You can say you are cluster phobic and how you have overcome it or that you are talkative and how you keep it down.
7. What salary do you expect?
Never state an exact number because the first to give a figure in the salary negotiation loses. Rather show your commitment for the job itself and maybe give a broad range that befits your particular role in that city. You can say that the salary should be fair and enable you to fair well amidst the high cost of living in that city.
8. Why should I choose you?
Talk about your qualifications and the values that make you stand out. Talk about your hunger to learn and your passion for being part of the team that writes history in its small way and why the company needs you.
9. What is your worst failure and what you learned from it?
Don’t talk about your major regret that leaves you unfulfilled instead focus on the one that you have since rectified. It might be the time you took something to be trivial only to realize that every brick forms the house and how in your own way that applies to the very situation.
10. Explain the gap in your employment?
Don’t make yourself look lazy and unhirable rather make it look like a choice that you made with the right reasons. You can state that even though it wasn’t a choice it got you involved in an activity that has since made you better than you ever imagined.
