As a freelancer we have our own stories, I leave here some of mine. I hope that you may find useful and share their own comments
1. Underestimate my work
Most of us do this at some point in our lives, many still continue to do so. Money is a difficult subject for many people. While I’m talking more about money now than before, although not a topic I find very comfortable. The problem is that until you do it easily becomes critical to perform.
Also be careful to charge per hour when in fact you should not do so. When the hourly charge for you penalize yourself to work faster. Also some jobs require experience and expertise to require little time. As the story of the engineer who charge $ 1 for a screw press and 99,999 dollars by knowing which to press.
2. On commit
No customer has the right to monopolize your time, even if they think they are paying well. When a client takes all your time then it is a boss and got a job, not a freelancer and client. Remember that as you work on the other hand one should take the time to contact customers and get you work in the future. Allowing a customer to specify your hours was the worst mistake I have committed when the contract was finished and was not backed up with more work after this job. The ideal is to seek to have four or five contracts have more room to breathe and not a loss leaves you in the air too long.
3. Failing in Sales
After the money I suppose the worst part of this work as a freelancer is thinking about how to sell yourself and your services. The fact is that over time a customer will know they want your help but do not know exactly what you want. Does not necessarily sell as well say to people here wriggle or lambizcon so to speak. If you can really help someone then offer your services in the way they respond to this. Make it all about them, their needs, they will gain from this, most importantly, listen more than you talk.
4. Always tell whether
Fear can cause us to do many stupid things. Take plenty of things to do and started to say no to new work by the same. Some were easier than others. Requests for work will be free but I’m always saying that no better now. You have to remember that a bad deal or a bad client can hurt even more to have lost that job. Be prepared to accept anything that comes your way and know that you can be polite and friendly without accepting all the time.
5. No follow up
Customers happy can be your greatest source of new work, as similar to those already made references as well. You should always have at least one witness to say how happy they are with your work. Even in movies and books show us how they do it. Saying such and such a winning film for this and other school of art, saying that the comment of the times was that the film or book is the best in the last 10 years. We see and know that this draws attention but just do not apply. We will not hurt to ask you think about our work. It can also be good to send birthday cards to remind your customers that you care, things like that, you never know.
As I continue to learn all about these things, and it is best to have fun in spite of everything, always doing quality work without leaving behind something that we must live.
