Good brands do command reputation and respect. They will help you to build your presence and a place in the market. When queries about a good freelance writer or regarding a know how to design a websites comes up, strong brands will then take up the mind. Now the real question is how to build a good brand? Or rather what are the rules to be followed while going behind establishing a good brand? It really takes time and energy and here are 5 often neglecting rules which would enable you to go for a branding in freelancing business.
1. Brands need boundaries
It is of course interesting g to claim that you could handle or manage any customers. One could say that our team has a solution for everything or whatever you need is there with us. But when we come to reality, this may turn a little. So try to always draw a boundary to your brand. Saying what you will not do is very important as you tell what you do. Because it make defines you and your style of work.
For instance, last day a freelancer came to me saying that he wanted to begin a business on photography. He would like to design engagement photos and wedding portraits, not in the old traditional way. His mind was behind doing some sort of greeky work, something which is funny and shows up some themes. He just doesn’t want stuffed photos of bride and groom but instead he needs a zombie style or a kind of star wars involving the bride and groom. Isn’t it something odd and conventional? Actually I liked it but since it was not my style, I left it. Still his personality and imaginations stroked my mind. He has introduced a killer brand to me, isn’t it? If any time anyone loving Harry potter or Twilight or rather lost, who wants their marriage photos to be unique and different then I can easily mention about him. He is not same like all and this difference makes me remember him.
2. Actions reinforce branding
You can just say whatever you like……..you are this, you could do work like that, and etc. But if you do not show it in your work then they will remain ever as mere pictures and words drawn in water.
Brands are remembered when their actions keep a back up of words and agreements. If you need to design a brand that a client remembers then your must forward them something that leaves a good impressing about you in their mind. And of course, the first impression is the best for any one.
You can’t say a client that he could believe in you without giving the work on time. You can’t just say that your work will be perfect by shipping simply over your initial draft. You can’t say that you will always keep time line by sending the final version of your first work in a delay of 2 days. Brands are getting impressed and destroyed by actions , so see always that you are giving your client right signals at right time.
3. Brands evolve
Even if you believe that your brand is strong like a stone, it’s flexible like anything. And if you believe that it’s always been like this and I can’t change this now, then you are absolutely wrong. Even the large business companies reinvent each time as they have to compete with many others as time goes on. If you are working as a freelancer, then you should do the same.try to always improve your skills by being update on the technology. Try to revise your functions and be alert to highlight your best work. Brands will remain relevant through time and experiences. Make sure that you are standing up to the mark,
4. Your brand is for customer
You may feel very happy to build your own brand and carve your space in the world of freelancing and initially you may feel that you own a small empire itself. But try to get out of this self created shell without much delay. The real purpose of your brand is to support your clients not for your ego. Your task is to make your client feel good of your brand. If you are not able to create this impression, then your brand is going to struggle. Don’t step back from doing what is necessary. That may not make you very glamorous sometimes but will be useful for you. Check out your ego at the doorstep and become a solver of your issue s for the need of your clients. This strategy will aid you nicely.
5. You are the brand
It may be difficult to live your trade every time, but it comes with freelancing territory. If you are not in a good mood and meet a person for the first time, then it will not be a good time for both of you. Every customer is a benefit for us, and none of us are fully perfect, so try to keep your foot forward as far as possible. If you have an inconsistent attitude, then your brand image will be too the same. That’s the kind of life a freelancer have. You are representing your brand, if it like or not.
